Keeping it Green Indoors

Clean Air Inside the Home is Just as Important as Outside.

Going green at home not only affects the outside elements, but also the indoor elements of your home. Keeping your home’s indoor air quality should be a priority for any homeowner.

One of the leading causes of indoor air pollution in homes is a colorless, odorless gas called Radon.

This natural gas comes up through the ground and can seep into the home through foundation, just as seen in the illustration on the right.

Radon-resistant construction techniques can be effective in preventing radon entry. Ask your home builder about these features when building your new home.

Every new home should be tested after occupancy, even if it was built radon-resistant. If radon levels are still in excess of 4 pCi/L, the passive system should be activated by having a qualified mitigator install a vent fan.

You can get more information about Radon from the EPA’s website at: www.epa.gov/radon/rrnc.
